Church Silence on Harassment Must End A recent survey by the Hong Kong Christian Council's Gender Justice Ministry has exposed systemic flaws in handling sexual harassment complaints within some of Hong Kong's most respected institutions – its churches.
The findings should serve as a wake up call to spiritual leaders across the city. For decades, allegations of abuse have been dismissed with a pat on the back and a prayer for forgiveness.
The survey reveals that 69 victims, including minors as young as 13, suffered varying degrees of harassment at the hands of church officials or members.
