Decomposing Trust: A Case of Police Backpedaling in Jeju South Korean police have been forced to backtrack on their claims about the death of Jang Mi ran, a 37 year old woman whose body was discovered on August 24 at a palm tree farm in Hallim eup, Jeju City.
The case has raised questions not only about the handling of missing person reports but also about the trustworthiness of forensic evidence and the investigative process itself.
Initially, police claimed that Jang's death by hanging was supported by both the position of her body and an autopsy conducted by the National Forensic Service.
