Historic WWII Tugboat Emerges from Danube River Depths

The Unmooring of History: A Glimpse into Europe's Withering Waterways As the Danube River shrinks due to a prolonged drought that has affected half of the European Union, secrets from its depths are beginning to emerge.

Amidst this crisis, history is being rewritten before our eyes. The remains of the Slovenian, a steam tugboat from the early 20th century, have finally been exposed in full.

The Slovenian's tale is particularly poignant. Built in Budapest in 1913, it played a part in both World Wars – first under Austro Hungarian rule and then as a Yugoslav vessel during the Nazi occupation.
