Coaster of Errors: When Safety Protocols Fail on Thrill Rides The recent incident at Copper Mountain's Rocky Mountain Coaster has left a Texas woman fighting for her life, raising questions about the effectiveness of safety protocols at amusement parks across the country.

Nicki Parker was riding the coaster on August 17 when she was ejected from her seat and dragged along the track for 20 to 30 seconds.

Her injuries were severe: a broken rib that punctured her lung, a dislocated shoulder requiring surgery, and a traumatic brain injury.
