Border Bloodshed: A Cycle of Violence on Sudan's Periphery Recent clashes along the Sudan South Sudan border have left at least 26 people dead and 82 injured.

The violence is a stark reminder of the simmering tensions in the disputed region of Abyei, where intercommunal fighting between the Ngok Dinka and Misseriya pastoral communities has been ongoing for years.

The roots of the conflict lie in the complex geography of the region. Abyei, rich in oil reserves, is jointly administered by Sudan and South Sudan, with both countries claiming ownership.
