A Talent for Murder review – Helen Mirren is a viperous Patricia Highsmith in hit and miss thriller The Toronto film festival has been a proving ground for a type of thriller that's become increasingly popular: the chamber piece.

Characterized by small casts and contained settings, these movies rely heavily on dialogue driven tension to propel the plot forward.

However, as we've seen with A Talent for Murder, this approach can be a double edged sword. On one hand, the chamber piece allows for intimacy and claustrophobia that's hard to replicate in larger scale productions.
