Levon Helm Studios has filed a lawsuit against Amy Helm, singer-songwriter daughter of late Band member Levon Helm. At its core, this lawsuit represents a clash of visions for the future of Levon Helm Studios, an institution once synonymous with Americana music and artistic innovation.

This lawsuit follows an ongoing dispute between Amy Helm and other shareholders of Levon Helm Studios, which began earlier this year when Amy was removed as president for alleged mismanagement. The allegations against her are not new; in May, she accused Brian Parillo, one of the studio’s shareholders, of financial exploitation and elder abuse of her stepmother Sandra Helm.

The lawsuit claims she charged $400,000 to the studio for personal expenses and took an additional $200,000 from the Levon Helm Estate, including from an LLC used to distribute royalties from Levon’s final albums.
